Neck, Décolletage and Chest Rejuvenation Treatments

One of the most observable signs of aging is the lack of firmness in the skin of neck (Turkey neck) or chest. As we age, our skin loses the softness that it had in our younger years, and this causes it to become loose and appear saggy. This is frequently obvious on the face, neck and hands. A sagging neck is one of the most prominent signs of aging. Years of sun exposure can cause the skin on the neck, chest, arms, and hands to show irregular patches of discoloration (mottled red, brown, and white) and have a more rough wrinkled texture.

As you age, your skin begins to produce less oil, making it become drier and loose. This causes you to not just look old, but feel old too. There are ways to obtain tight and younger-looking skin without having to undergo cosmetic surgery. One of them is laser skin tightening treatments. The neck’s lift can be performed using a multitude of different techniques that essentially create the same aesthetic results. Turkey necks and double chins can make us look overweight and older than we really are. There are many people who choose to go down the surgical route in order to fix this issue, but this comes with risks, and is also too expensive for many people’s budgets. The alternative method to tighten and lift neck skin is to do exercises and to try different non-surgical cosmetic treatments like laser treatment.

Until recently, the only solution has been to go under the knife, but right now there are other options.  At COL Clinic, we offer two options, Neck Skin Rejuvenation and Neck Lift, to improve the turkey neck appearance:

  •   Laser Neck Skin Rejuvenation –fit for patients with small amounts of loose skin and fatty pockets in the neck.
  •   IR Laser Neck Lift – fit for patients with moderate amounts of loose skin and fatty pockets around the neck.
  •   For some severe cases, it may be suggested the patient undertake a combination of both procedures, in the event the patient suffers from both severe loose skin and fatty pockets.

How does laser treatment work?

The laser treatment eliminates the appearance of jowls and horizontal bands of skin on the neck. It eliminates the lines, wrinkles, fat, and it tights the certain muscles. The use of the laser not only improves underlying structures of the neck, but also benefits the outer layers of skin. The newly refined skin on the neck is taught and even in tone.

Our treatment is a non-invasive treatment, and the combination of LHE/IPL (Light Heat Energy) and diode Laser has remarkable effects on the skin. LHE is specifically designed for rapid Photorejuvenation treatment. This device doesn’t need cooling system it greatly reduces the heat felt with each pulse. Wavelengths of IR diode laser penetrate to different levels of the skin, lightening hyperpigmentation, shrinking blood vessels, and stimulating collagen. The IR diode laser stimulates up the “collagen & elastin” fibres causing them to contract, whilst shrinking the small fatty deposits and increases the tonicity of the muscles. Results continue to improve over the following 6-9 weeks with noticeable improvement in the overall skin quality without the need to cut skin off

Different areas of skin such as the entire face, neck, chest, even arms and back can be treated. This non ablative treatment, over a series of gentle treatments (3-6), stimulates collagen to grow and lightens up the deeper layers of brown sun damage.

A treatment session lasts about 20 minutes (dependent on area being treated). You will experience minor discomfort similar to mild sunburn with a follow up in 2-6 weeks.

After the treatment:

Some redness and swelling may appear following treatment. This usually subsides within 1-2 days. It is recommended applying ice-packs to the treated area immediately and for the rest of the day. It is imperative to use a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen every day to prevent further damage. Your consulting practitioner can give you advice and start you on a suitable skin care regime for your skin type and requirements.

Who should avoid neck rejuvenation?

You may not want to have Photorejuvenation of the hands, neck and chest if you have a history of excessive scarring, excessive bleeding or bruising, sun sensitivity, keloid formation or poor healing. Those with a family history of skin cancer should talk to their doctor about whether or not to proceed with treatment. Treatment cannot be performed on tanned or sunburnt skin, but this will be discussed in your consultation prior to treatment.

Instructions for before the treatment:

Avoid sun exposure and sunless tanning for four weeks. Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory medications for at least three days before your session. You cannot be treated while you have open infections or sores in the area.

Instructions for after treatment:

Protect your skin with moisturizer and sunblock. Cold compresses and moisturizing cream may be used as needed. Avoid irritating your skin. Avoid sun exposure and sunless tanners for the first four weeks.

Are there any side effects?

The skin that surrounds the pigmented lesion may become red immediately after treatment. Most people experience no other side effects and the redness usually disappears without hours to a few days. Very rarely a small blister may form or the skin may become temporarily lighter or darker. The main side effects are mild, temporary swelling, redness, an accentuation of the brown spots, crusting, and an occasional bruise or small superficial blister (like a sunburn blister).
