How is Photo Rejuvenation Performed?

A photo rejuvenation procedure can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated. During the procedure, pulses of light are delivered to the skin through very specific probes. The level of energy is delivered in specific settings to maximize the results. The tissues absorb the light energy which stimulates the production of collagen. With new collagen forming, the client’s aging skin begins to soften. Fine lines and wrinkles are decreased and the redness with rosacea can be dramatically reduced.

This procedure is repeated in a series of 3-6 treatments or more, in order to achieve optimal results. The number of treatments can vary depending on the area and the skin’s condition. Even after one treatment, most clients notice a smoother look and feel to their skin. Improvements will become more evident with every treatment.

How Much Pain is Associated with Photo Rejuvenation?

Most clients describe the treatment like that of a rubber band being snapped on their skin. For those people sensitive to pain, a topical anesthetic may be applied.

What is the Recovery Like?

Post-operative discomfort from photo rejuvenation is minimal to non-existent. Bruising and redness may occur, but this is temporary. The Technician may advise post-op instructions that should be followed. This can include using sunscreen and avoiding the usage of any harsh skin cleansers. Applying anti-wrinkle and anti-aging products with photo rejuvenation facilitates the better results.

What Are the Long-Term Effects of Photo Rejuvenation?

Photo rejuvenations can have a lasting effect on the client. However, this treatment does not prevent the skin from aging. Clients will still continue to age, and a follow up treatment is usually done after a year or so. Otherwise, if the client does not undergo further treatment, their skin will revert to a pre-treatment appearance. For those clients undergoing photo rejuvenation to treat rosacea, the redness and flushing can be reduced by 80 to 90 percent.

What Are the Risks and Limitations of Photo Rejuvenation?

Photo rejuvenation has been considered a safe procedure worldwide. Photo rejuvenation only affects the targeted tissues and leaves the surrounding tissues intact. The only concerns would be short-term redness, bruising & short-term darkening of age spots. A limitation on this procedure is that it cannot treat clients with excessive sagging skin. Photo rejuvenation can be combined with a facelift to achieve a better facial makeover.
